Detroit Plaza Returns to Brisbane Truck Show

After a successful debut at the 2023 Brisbane Truck Show, Detroit Plaza will return to the BCEC terrace in a bar takeover.

With a Detroit DD13 Gen 5 engine on display and giveaways aplenty, Detroit Plaza will be serving up ice-cold drinks and tasty BBQ fare.

Powering the Western Star 47X and 48X models, the Detroit DD13 Gen 5 offers the latest diesel engine technology for even greater performance and reliability. Producing 450-525 hp and 1,550-1,850 lb-ft of torque, the 13L engine features a new swirl piston design for improved combustion, a new turbocharger for responsive performance, improved thermal management for fewer regens, extended DPF service intervals, and further fuel efficiency improvements.

On show on the Freightliner stand will be the DD13 and the DD16 powering the Cascadia 116 and Cascadia 126, respectively.

Offering flexible options for horsepower and torque in a package that provides excellent fuel economy, the DD13 delivers 450-505 hp and 1,650-1,850 lb-ft of torque, a three-stage integrated Jacobs engine brake, and a proprietary asymmetric turbocharger for outstanding performance and reliability.

The Western Star stand will feature the DD16 powerhouse and the DT12 transmission.

The biggest, most powerful truck engine ever built by Detroit, the DD16 powers the Freightliner Cascadia 126, Western Star 48X, and Western Star 49X. Rated at up to 600 hp and 2,050 lb-ft of torque, the 16L DD16 combines outstanding power, reliability, and fuel economy. The DD16 features turbo compounding to recover heat from the exhaust, transforming lost potential into bonus power and a wide, flat torque curve that pulls strongly all the way down below 1,000 rpm.

Subject to over 35 million miles of testing, the DT12 AMT is globally proven in various challenging applications. Available in DT12-OV and DT12-OVX variants, the 12-speed transmission boasts rock-free and off-road functions in addition to the on-highway focussed economy and performance modes. It also includes a power launch feature and has side and rear power take-off (PTO) capabilities.

“We believe our Detroit proposition is simply the best. The best support, best efficiency, and best performance,” said Bob Gowans, Detroit business manager at Penske Australia & New Zealand.

“Through our extensive and expanding dealer network, we offer the best customer support.

“And our customers report that we lead the pack when it comes to operating efficiency, and drivers find the performance to be outstanding.

“Detroit sets the bar when it comes to engines, and quite literally, Detroit will set the bar at the truck show!”
